While we are all locked down in our beautiful homes, one of the things that we are unable to buy as easily as earlier is our pet’s favorite food. While DoggieTheApp is trying to deliver to as many food subscribers as possible, we are sure some of you are still trying to figure out whet happens when your dog food gets over…and what if the lockdown gets even more severe and deliveries also stop at some point of time. And what if you are not in Mumbai…the reasons go on and the solution, at some point of time, might be the plain old home cooked food. So here are some options for you concerned pet parents to try and cook some healthy, wholesome food options for your lovely doggie.
Eggs are great source of protein and sweet potatoes are high in fibre. That makes our first recipe a great option for you.
Ingredients: 2-4 eggs, 2 Sweet potatoes, cheese slice (optional)
Method: Boil your whole sweet potatoes until they are tender. Now cut them into halves and scoop out the centre starchy part. Pour 1 tsp coconut oil in the pan and break 2-4 eggs in it. Try and keep yolks as less as you can. For every 2 eggs, keep 1 yolk to keep the proteins higher. Now scramble the eggs and let it cool. Mix it with the starchy part of sweet potatoes along with the (optional) cheese slice and serve. Do note that you can replace coconut oil with Olive oil too.
While the first one is good to cook and serve immediately, the 2nd recipe is ideal for storing for a couple of days as well and can be served at any time. You can cook for two days and store the food in the containers and refrigerate it. It also includes pumpkin which is a high fibre source and acts as a cooling agent against the summer heat. Also, turmeric can effectively treat dogs by reducing inflammation, and relieve the pain and stiffness which may be caused due to lack of movement in these days.
Ingredients: 200 grams chicken, Turmeric, Pumpkin
Method: Take two glasses of water, Shredded Chicken, 1 tsp turmeric, Diced pumpkin without the skin and boil them in cooker for approximately 4 whistles. After boiling let it cool for a bit. Mix it up and get ready to serve.
Note: you can use other vegetables like carrots, green beans, sweet potato and you can also add cooked rice(brown rice preferably) to the meal. If adding other veggies, first see if they are good for consumption by Dogs. Check out the Doggopedia section on the app to see a list of items that are edible and non-edible by dogs.
The next recipe is a vegetarian option which includes curd that acts as a cooling agent for the heat in a dog's body. This again has to be served fresh and cannot be refrigerated.
Ingredients: Rice (brown rice preferably), 1 cup curd (without sugar) at room temperature, vegetables like carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes. If adding other veggies, first see if they are good for consumption by Dogs. Check out the Doggopedia section on the app to see a list of items that are edible and non-edible by dogs.
Method: Cook rice with the veggies in a cooker. After the rice cools down, add the curd to the same and serve. You can add a boiled egg white in the meal as well.
This next recipe is again a veg option which is ideal for lunch or dinner and you can store it in the containers to refrigerate it as well. In contains moong daal which is a great source of protein.
Ingredients: 100 grams moong daal, 200 grams rice (brown rice), vegetables like carrots, potatoes, etc. If adding other veggies, first see if they are good for consumption by Dogs. Check out the Doggopedia section on the app to see a list of items that are edible and non-edible by dogs.
Method: Add 700 ml of water in a cooker along with rice, moong daal and vegetables (optional). Boil them for approximately 3 whistles and let it cool. That’s it, serve it at your convenience.
